The diner and traveller of 2018 are demanding more and more from their experience, which presents challenges for venues in the hospitality industry to deliver.

To cater to this, Bates Smart has refurbished and reim电竞下载iosed a range of major hospitality venues, we take a look at five of their biggest and best projects now open to the public in Sydney.

Zephyr, Hyatt Regency Sydney

The key feature of this asset is its location and view. Located on level 12 of the Hyatt Regency, this Sydney city sky bar features one of the best panoramic views of the harbour, and needed architectural features to match.

The im电竞下载ios team opted for a super yacht motif, giving the venue an ‘upper deck’ feel that complements the sweeping harbour views. It starts with the colours, an exclusive yachting palate of white, blue and black, and extends to nautical curves and clean lines.

The added benefit is that the materials used are exceptionally sturdy and will hold this exclusive sky bar in good stead for many years to come.

Novotel Darling Square Sydney

Bustling Darling Harbour is a haven for business and leisure travellers alike, so the Novotel Darling Square needed a im电竞下载ios that is as practical as it is desirable. To achieve that, the hotel ran a im电竞下载ios competition in 2015, which was won by Bates Smart.

This refurbishment presented a challenge with a limited budget on offer, but Bates Smart achieved the owners’ desire to have a ‘fresh, streamlined identity’ and a feeling of ‘easy modernity’.

To counter the budget constraints, many of the original materials were retained and reused with fresh cladding installed over the balustrading, columns and walls.

New colours, natural dry-stone walling, limed oak and white-washed timbers were used to attract younger customers. The look was completed with paintings of a series of birds completed by a local artist.

Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay

This building houses the former Ritz Carlton – a 144-room hotel with panoramic views of Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

Bates Smart was commissioned to give this hotel new majesty, with a new rooftop bar, new cocktail bar, all-day dining facilities, function rooms and a grand ballroom all weaved into the im电竞下载ios.

The existing timber panelling and marble flaws were retained (no need to fix what isn’t broken) with a fresh overlay installed to add a fresh elegance to the existing grandeur.

Rockpool Bar and Grill, Sydney

This project required a complete revamp of the heritage listed Art Deco City Mutual Building, which means there are nods of the head to its Melbourne counterpart but distinct differences as well.

The ground and first floors have been transformed to cater to a first-class dining experience, which has been achieved through balancing the elegance of the furniture and fittings with the hero of the space – the 11-metre-tall ceilings.

Everything has been modelled around a black palette, including stained oak, marble, mild steel and leather, while all furniture, fittings, carpets and joinery were custom-made for this project.

Spice Temple

Tucked beneath the Art Deco City Mutual Building in Sydney’s CBD is the discrete Spice Temple.

This underground restaurant features unique im电竞下载ios from Bates Smart, steering away from overtly oriental im电竞下载ios and instead using dramatic lighting and sexy im电竞下载ios, with Asian influences infused throughout.

The menu is a diverse offering paying homage to the Sichuan provinces and the im电竞下载ios nuances reflect this, through textures, light and shade and influences of the exotic street hawker food markets in China.
