David Solomon is Master Builders Association (MBA) NSW’s Executive Safety Officer. He heads up the MBA NSW Safety Department, a WHS technician when it comes to prescribed legislation and troubleshooting member queries and issues.

David represents the building and construction industry on numerous committees holding various positions. He helps develop WorkCover pilot industry programs, im电竞下载ios and develop compliant safety management systems, allocate staff resources, submit client proposals, provide WHS advice to members, undertake safety audits and inspections, publicly speak at safety events, coordinate safety network briefing, deliver safety updates at member divisional evenings as well as write articles on relevant safety issues. MBA NSW works in partnership with WorkCover NSW to promote safety awareness.

He has been with MBA NSW for what he describes as ’18 fabulous months’ and has worked in the construction industry for over 26 years, always being aligned with safety as his relationship with safety has always been close.

Steering his careers towards a full-time safety role through combining his on-site experience with study, he accepted an offer for a unique opportunity to represent the Building and Construction industry, with a vision to make the industry a safer place to work.

Through his extensive knowledge and experience, David has been involved in various projects including Westfield Bondi Junction $1.4B, Westfield Mt Druitt $300M, Westfield Parramatta Rail Link Children’s Precinct $70M, Brookfield Multiplex 31 Public Schools in the Western Sydney region for the Building Education Revolution (BER), Multiplex Portside Wharf QLD $200M, Watpac One Macquarie Apartments QLD $58M and Watpac Waterloo Hotel Redevelopment & 4 separate towers QLD $40M.

His current role at MBA NSW has enabled him to see most construction sites across NSW and is supported greatly by senior management which opens gateways to state, national and international opportunities. This also offers unique opportunities to represent the Building and Construction industry in the safety space on numerous levels otherwise not available in other senior safety roles.

Fortunately, David faces very few challenges during his projects as his enthusiasm is well received by senior management. He states that “the MBA safety Team always aims to provide the best advice, solution or innovation for our members and committees we represent.”

According to David, the key to any successful project is “planning, communication and regular consultation with your fellow team members or workmates. Talking to each other is increasing awareness; delivering higher quality outcomes and cohesive work relationships”.

David finds the opportunity to help others who are genuinely interested in advancing their awareness in safety. A positive element of his job and his industry as well as his team’s attitude and the positive evolving environment in which he works.

While his passion for safety in building and construction is unquestionable, David is also passionate about his family, standing up for what is right and wrong, skateboarding, boutique beers and the development of international standards and writing.

A great achievement of David’s is representing Australia as a delegate in the development of a new international standard for safety management systems ISO45001 and being promoted to become the deputy task group leader within that International Committee PC283. He was selected for a second time to represent Australia in Ireland this coming July 2015 and for an ISO meeting in September.

David surrounds himself within individuals that inspire him such as his father, Dr Bob Solomon and takes inspiration from individuals such as Hillary Clinton, Brian Seidler, Peter Glover, Professor Denis Else, Stand Rodgers and Joyce A Philips.

His greatest fear is our richest resource drying up which is water. “Without it we’re stuffed” states David.

For anyone aspiring to be David, his piece of advice to you is “Work hard then work even harder! Listen, learn, cogitate and implement. Get a coach, a mentor and or someone who shares your interests who is willing to help you along the way. Achieving your goals will seem easier, more interesting and expedite the process of achieving your goals. Remember where you came from and stay grounded”.
